Course Delivery and Assessment

The course is delivered at mine sites by Simtars’ third party provider Dynamic Braking Pty Ltd who are well recognised in the industry. Dynamic Brake Testing Pty Ltd actively recruit learners on Simtars’ behalf. The training is delivered in a face to face mode over two days.  Training includes both theory and practical exercises using brake testing equipment.   Participants will be required to complete written assessments and test the relevant heavy and light vehicles and mobile plants.

The amount of training has been reduced to 23 hours, delivered over 2 days face-to-face, on the following basis:

All learners undertaking this course, are experienced workers who have a minimum of 2 years’ workshop experience.  It is appropriate to deliver and assess this training course over a shorter period, because the workers already have many of the underpinning skills and knowledge required, including:

  • Identifying and managing hazards and risks associated with working on the machinery and equipment being used
  • Procedural methodologies used to identify and confirm system faults, deficiencies or discrepancies
  • Identifying, selecting and preparing tools and materials
  • Carrying out diagnostic processes, sequencing, and tests in accordance with manufacturer specifications, workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Methodologies for drawing valid conclusions from available evidence
  • Preparing written reports and justifying rectification methods / variations  in accordance with workplace and legislative requirements
  • Cleaning work area, and storing tools and equipment in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Processing documentation in accordance with workplace procedures

This course will be delivered holistically, with all of the units being delivered in a clustering arrangement.

On successful completion of all assessments a Statement of Attainment will be issued by Simtars RTO 1828.
